DDMA East to organise mock drills for earthquake preparedness
EOI, GANGTOK, 19 Feb 2014: The District Disaster Management Authority (East), in coordination with the Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority and Land Revenue & Disaster Management Department, will on February 21 conduct a preparatory mock drill on earthquake preparedness. The drill will be conducted in several places of Gangtok and will be a precursor to the Mega Mock drill scheduled on March 10.
East District Collector-cum-chairman JS Raje said in an official release that the exercise is being carried out to sensitise and spread awareness on earthquakes.
He appealed to the people to participate in the mock exercise to help build a safer and a disaster resilient state. The exercise is purely on a mock basis and there is no apprehension of danger and panic as all necessary measures for public safety have been well taken care of, stressed Raje.
