Movement on NH-10 Resumed: PWD and District Administration Issue Advisories

KalimNews, 23 September 2024, Kalimpong: National Highway-10 reopened this afternoon following temporary restoration work.

Ramen Mondal, Highway Administrator of National Highway Division No. IX, announced that repairs at Seti Jhora (6.700 km) and near Selfie Dara (8.000 km) are complete.

All vehicles, including those with a laden weight up to 8 tons, can resume travel on NH-10 starting at 3:30 PM today.

However, single-lane traffic will be required at the 26.100 km mark. The Public Works Department (PWD) recommends that the district administration post traffic police at this location to ensure smooth traffic flow.

The Kalimpong district administration has issued an advisory confirming the reopening. District Magistrate Balasubramanian T has announced restrictions on vehicle movement on internal roads in Kalimpong District for public safety. These restrictions include:

All heavy vehicles with a laden weight over 8 tons are prohibited from:
Gorubathan Pandara to Reshi via Lava, Algarah, and Pedong.
Gorubathan Pandara to Kalimpong via Lava and Algarah.
SH 12 from Rabi Mora (Deo Gram) to Peshok Bridge.
These restrictions will remain in effect until further notice.

However, heavy vehicles (up to 8 tons) traveling to Kalimpong Town from Algarah are allowed from 9 PM to 6 AM until further notice.

Additionally, police will enforce necessary restrictions at Pandora, Gorubathan, and other district borders to facilitate route diversions. Temporary restrictions and diversions for all vehicle types may be implemented as needed to ensure public safety.

Since last night, there was movement of all types of vehicles on NH-10, despite no official announcement about the highway reopening. This led to significant traffic jams throughout the day. Eventually, the district police managed to control the traffic with great difficulty.
