59 crore plus voters in Bengal for Lok Sabha polls

 According to the EC strictures to parties, candidates found to having more than three criminal cases, the parties would be responsible to explain the reasons behind choosing such candidates by giving advertisements thrice in newspapers.
SNS | Kolkata | March 17, 2024 : The Election commission in a bid to keep the parliamentary elections spotless and transparent has asked political parties to keep tainted candidates at bay and any violation of which the parties would have to take the onus by giving explanations on such selections by giving advertisements in newspapers about the candidature of such particular candidates. According to the EC strictures to parties, candidates found to having more than three criminal cases, the parties would be responsible to explain the reasons behind choosing such candidates by giving advertisements thrice in newspapers.

The chief electoral officer (CEO) of the state, Aariz Aftab, while addressing the press today on the issue of tainted candidates, preferred to go by the book when he said, the EC would proceed as asked to do by the ECI. On deployment of about 920 company of central forces in the state, the CEO said that nothing can be said right now and would depend on the arrival of CAPF companies. Meanwhile, the CEO said that about 7,59,19, 891 general voters of the state would exercise their franchise in the 19 April to 1 June parliamentary polls. In the state, elections will be held in 42 seats.

The male voters would be 3,85,69,610 and female voters to be around 3,73,48,511. The total number of voters, in the age group of 18- 19 years in the state are 15,72, 455 (2.07%), 20-29 age groups are about 1,66,39,081. The total number of polling stations in the state is 80,530 (including 77 ancillary). Number of polling stations to be managed by women is around 5,942. Figures of webcasting are around 42,000+ police stations
