218098 voters of Kalimpong Assembly will exercise their voting right on 26 April.
There are 288 polling stations of which 21 are new polling stations
KalimNews, Kalimpong, 17 March 2024: Kalimpong district of the Darjeeling Parliamentary Constituency will go to polls for General Elections-2024 in the second Phase of the seven phases. Darjeeling Parliamentary constituency 04 along with Balurghat and Raigunj Parliamentary constituency will go for poll on 26 April, said Balasubramanian T. District Magistrate while addressing the media during a press conference.
In the last Lok Sabha election held in 2019 there were 203485 voters and the voters turnout was 70.84 per cent.
He stated that there are 218098 voters in the District of the 22 Kalimpong Assembly segment with more female electors than males and it is 107589 males and 110509 females. There are 2087 service voters which tally to 220185 number of electors. The number of new voters who recently have reached the age of 18 years as on 22 January 2024 is 5843 and the number of senior citizens above the age of 85 is 1385.
As per the data available in Kalimpong there are 288 polling stations of which 21 are new polling stations created this time including one Auxiliary booth (at Judhabir HS School). Of them 242 are located in the different Gram Panchayats in the rural areas while 46 polling stations are located in the urban area covered by Kalimpong Municipality. The average number of voters in each polling station is 757. Of the 288 polling stations, 25 will be managed by women polling and security personnel. In this election 1152 polling personnel will be appointed to complete the process of poll on the poll day. Balasubramanian added.
The model code of conduct came into effect from 16 March 2024 and the schedule starts with issue of gazette notification on 28 March, and the nomination starts from the very same day.
Last day of the filing of nomination is 4 April while the scrutiny will be done and completed on 5 April. The last date of the withdrawal of nomination of candidature is 8 April. After holding the election on 26 April the counting will be completed on 6 June along with all the constituencies of the nation.
It was also informed by the District Magistrate who is also the district election officer of the district, that Tanyang Tribal Primary School polling station 22/165 (T) has 1420 electors, the highest number of voters, while there are only 105 electors in Soureni FV Pry. School 22/281 polling station considered as the polling station having smallest number of electors.
Keram Primary School (22/210) located near Todey Tangta is the polling station situated in the farthest distance of 160 km from Kalimpong.
He further stated that this time also more emphasis is given on the peaceful and free and fare election and four companies of CAPF has already arrived in Kalimpong.

In Kalimpong the venue of distribution centre and reception centre of election materials (DCRC) and counting is SUM Institution.
Darjeeling Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 42 Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituencies in West Bengal state. It is a General category parliament seat. It comprises of the entire Darjeeling district and. part of Uttar Dinajpur district .
