MP Raju Bista Reviews NH-10 Upgrades, Highlights Strategic Importance and Centre’s Commitment to Regional Connectivity

KalimNews, Kalimpong, May 11, 2025 : Darjeeling Lok Sabha MP Raju Bista visited and reviewed the ongoing repair and reconstruction work on National Highway 10 (NH-10), being carried out by the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL). Accompanied by NHIDCL officials, Bista expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of the work, particularly in addressing the vulnerabilities of the landslide-prone sections of this critical route. He noted that the progress reflects NHIDCL’s technical expertise in ensuring safer and more reliable connectivity for the people of Kalimpong, Darjeeling, the Dooars, and Sikkim.

During his inspection, Bista reiterated his long-standing advocacy for the comprehensive overhaul of NH-10. He emphasized the highway's dual significance—not only as an essential lifeline for the region's communities and economy, but also as a strategic route impacting national security. He recalled that in 2024, the transfer of the Sevoke-Rangpo stretch to NHIDCL was a "landmark moment," enabling better coordination for timely repairs and upgrades. According to Bista, this development has laid the groundwork for seamless regional connectivity that will support local livelihoods, tourism, trade, and overall accessibility.

The MP conveyed his deep gratitude to the Central Government, particularly Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, for their continued commitment to improving infrastructure in the region. He said the Centre’s focused investment in NH-10 will not only strengthen the region’s connection to the rest of the country, but also foster economic growth, enhance tourism potential, and contribute to national security, especially along the sensitive Indo-China border areas.

By reinforcing NH-10’s structural resilience and broadening its capacity, the government aims to ensure that communities in remote and hill regions remain connected year-round. Bista’s visit underlines the significance of coordinated development initiatives in these border-adjacent districts, where infrastructure plays a pivotal role in both economic stability and strategic preparedness.
