GTA failed as leaders lacked honesty, says Ajay Edward
Don't Miss
YOWAN MOTHAY, EOI, KALIMPONG, NOVEMBER 2, 21: PPS should not fall short of the sixth schedule,” political leader of Darjeeling Ajay Edward said in Kalimpong on Tuesday.
“Gorkha Janmukti Morcha president Bimal Gurung, general secretary Roshan Giri, Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha president Anit Thapa have made a draft of PPS of Union Territory or Gorkhaland and handed it over to Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee. The BJP alliance also say the same in Delhi,” he said. While the PPS was under discussion, political outfits in the hills should not skip the panchayat or municipal polls as common people were suffering from a lot of problems, he said.
“In the past 35 years leaders have given big talks but the fact remains that when one opens the water tap in Kalimpong town water does not flow,” he said sarcastically. 'My dream is to develop the Darjeeling hills in education, sports, music; to serve the sick ambulance services should be developed in hospitals, roads should be built in remote areas. I am working on it.”
He also said he was one of the persons who used to say that the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration did not meet the needs of the people. “But in period of working out PPS, GTA should be run well.” GTA had failed because leaders lacked honesty, he said. "I don't want to blame only the State and the Centre. I know GTA is a weak system. But a ward councillor can also make his ward better if he works honestly. There corruption in every department of GTA.
The mentality of the people who run GTA is not right.” He said the time had come for the people of Darjeeling to ignore leaders and parties with a bad mentality. He said they had a big hand in making the Darjeeling hill worse.
