New Darj tea brand launches
SNS, SILIGURI, 8 0CTOBER 2021: After Tata, Birla has launched its tea in different forms from the house of Jay Shree in the Indian domestic market.
Notably, a part of BK Birla conglomerate, lay Shree Tea & Industry Ltd has been planters since 1945.
According to the president of the company, Anil Jha, the newly-launched packed tea range will comprehensively represent the best of Darjeeling, but is yet affordable to most Indians. According to Mr Jha, organic black tea, green tea, roasted tea in both loose leaf and the teabag form will be available in the domestic market from the house of Jay Shree Tea. Its plantation is located at Puttabong one of the areas in Darjeeling Hills where Dr Archibald Campbell started experimenting tea plantations since 1840.
Mr Jha today said the Darjeeling tea industry has been struggling in recent times.
"From climate change to cheap foreign alternates, a lot of external and internal factors have contributed to its current condition, where Industry is almost solely dependent on overseas markets. That too has seen a decline in value due to the recent global pandemic", Mr Jha said.
