Kalimpong female voters exceed males - 5th phase of Assembly election


KalimNews, Kalimpong, 16 April 2021 : 209760 electors of Kalimpong Assembly Constituency have been registered to exercise their franchise for the 17th Assembly election to the West Bengal Legislative Assembly to be held on April 17 in the 5th phase of the 8 rounds.

The size of the electorate in Kalimpong is 2,09,760 voters — 1,03,961 men, 1,05,799 women.In Kalimpong Municpality there are 38660 voters of which 18676 are males whereas 19984 are females. In Kalimpong I Block there are 64826 voters of which 31960 are males whereas 32866 are females. In Kalimpong II Block there are 56501 voters of which 28740 are males whereas 27761 are females. In Gorubathan Block there are 49773 voters of which 24585 are males whereas 25188 are females. 

There are eight candidates in the fray for the one assembly seat of Kalimpong. They are Dilip Pradhan of Indian National Congress, Penjo Gompu Bhutia of National People’s Party, Suva Pradhan of Bharatiya Janata Party, Ujjwal Rai -Independent of Akhil Bharatiya Gorkha League, Dr. R.B. Bhujel -Independent of GJMM- Bimal Gurung camp , Bhupendra Lepcha -Independent, Ruden Sada Lepcha - Independent of GJMM Binay Tamang camp and Songden Lepcha - Independent.

In this Assembly Constituency there are 301 polling stations of which 261 are main and 40 Auxiliary polling stations in 221 polling premises, 22 in the Urban Municipality area and 199 in the Gram Panchayat areas.

The number of polling stations in the 23 wards of Kalimpong Municipality is 54 (46 Main and 8 Auxiliary)- Polling station (nos. 70 to 115). 

In the 18 Gram Panchayats of Kalimpong I Block there are 91 (82 Main and 9 Auxiliary) polling stations (Polling station nos. 116 to 197).  In the 13 Gram Panchayats of Kalimpong II Block there are 83 (69 Main and 14 Auxiliary) polling stations (Polling station nos. 1 to 69).  Gorubathan Block of the district having 11 Gram Panchayats has 73 (64 Main and 9 Auxiliary)- Polling stations (nos. 198 to 261).  

49 sector officers are looking after these 301 polling booths to assist the polling personnel and Election officials.

In this Assembly constituency, least number of voters is recorded in Polling Station No.238 (Pashiting Pry School under Pokhrebong GP of Gorubathan block). It has 241 Voters (122 males and 119 females)

Polling station having maximum number of voters is Polling Station No.145 (Yangri Free Primary School under Yangmakum GP of Kalimpong I Block) with 1091 Voters (561 males and 530 females)

All the polling personnel have reached their respective polling booths in all the 45 Assembly constituencies of the districts of Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Kalimpong and some parts of Nadia, North 24 Parganas and Purba Bardhaman.

First phase of the election was started on 27 March and the last 8th phase will be held on April 29. There are a total of 294 assembly seats in the 23 districts of the state Assembly of which 68 are reserved for Scheduled Castes and 16 for the Scheduled Tribes. 

Polling will take place from 7.00 a.m. to 6.30 p.m and the result will be declared on 2 nd May 2021.
