KalimNews, Kalimpong April 28, 2025 : The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Alipore, Kolkata, has issued a detailed weather forecast warning of significant thunderstorm activity across West Bengal over the coming days, with potential for hailstorms, lightning, and strong winds in several districts.
Monday, April 28 : Severe weather conditions are expected to impact parts of Gangetic West Bengal, with hailstorms likely at one or two locations in Jhargram, West Midnapore, and Purulia districts.
Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 60–70 kmph and frequent lightning are forecast for Nadia, North 24 Parganas, Hooghly, East Burdwan, and West Midnapore. Other districts in Gangetic West Bengal may also experience thunderstorms with winds around 50–60 kmph.
Meanwhile, the Sub-Himalayan region of West Bengal can expect thunderstorms with slightly lower wind speeds of 40–50 kmph, along with lightning.
Tuesday, April 29 : Widespread thunderstorms are expected to continue, with gusty winds (40–50 kmph) and lightning across all districts of Gangetic West Bengal. In the Sub-Himalayan districts, gusts of 30–40 kmph are anticipated with similar lightning activity.
Wednesday, April 30 : A new round of thunderstorms is forecast for both regions of the state. Districts such as East & West Midnapore, Jhargram, Bankura, Purulia, West Burdwan, Birbhum, and Murshidabad are expected to be affected in Gangetic WB. In the Sub-Himalayan region, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Jalpaiguri are likely to witness stormy conditions.
Thursday, May 1 : The IMD predicts continued thunderstorm activity with gusty winds of 40–50 kmph across all Gangetic West Bengal districts.
Friday, May 2 : A slightly more severe day is forecast with thunderstorms and gusty winds in North & South 24 Parganas, East & West Midnapore, and Hooghly, as well as Malda, North & South Dinajpur in the Sub-Himalayan region. Other districts in both regions may also experience less intense storms with wind speeds of 30–40 kmph.
Saturday & Sunday, May 3–4 : Weather conditions are expected to stabilize, with no significant weather events predicted.
Advisory for Citizens: Residents, especially in the districts mentioned, are advised to stay indoors during thunderstorms and avoid open areas and secure loose outdoor items that could become flying debris.
