Mirik reports its first COVID-19 positive case

EOI, MIRIK, JUNE 2/20: A person from Mirik has been tested COVID-19 positive. The 50-year old is a resident of Limboogaon,Tingling Tea Estate in Mirik. He had returned from Haryana via Delhi recently and was in institutional quarantine at old Mirik College. 
In quarantine he ran a fever from May 28th. He was shifted to the Severe Acute Respiratory Illness hospital at DESUN in Siliguri. His swab sample was sent for testing on May 31.The result of tests from the VRD lab of NBMCH, Siliguri, showed positive onJune 1. He has been shifted to the Covid-19hospital in Siliguri. 
Administrative sources stated that the quarantine centre at Mirik will be sanitized and tests will be conducted on all inmates of the quarantine centre. This is the first case in the Mirik sub division and the 5th in the Darjeeling Hills. 
Prior to this, two persons had tested positive from Sonada and two from Kurseong recently. Sources state that all the primary contacts of the Kurseong and Sonada cases have tested negative.
According to the BMOH Dr.Tashi Lama,the person in contact with the 50 year old male from Limboogaon,Tingling are requested to stay under extreme alert with zero contact with family members and immediately contact health centre if any symptoms like high fever, mental confusion, persistent pressure in chest, discoloration of lips is found. 
He had returned from Haryana via Delhi to Mirik on 30th May and reported to have fever. He was referred to Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) hospital (Desun Hospital) located in Kawakhali where yesterday his swab test was found to be positive.
According to him, the swab samples of four people in contact with him are sent for testing. People are requested to avoid unnecessary travelling and loitering around the town. Parents are strictly requested to keep children's at home. Mirik is no longer COVID-19 free now. Stay safe.Stay home, he added.
