Sharp rise in the number of death, new cases and confirmed cases in the country- government concerned on rapid rise

KalimNews, Kalimpong, 28 May 2020:  65th day of national lockdown-India witnessed a spike of 6,566 fresh coronavirus cases and 194 deaths in the last 24 hours. As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s latest data released on Thursday, the total number of cases in the country now stands at 1,58,333 including 86,110 active cases. As many as 67,692 people have been cured/discharged. The death toll has reached 4,531.
After the first confirmed positive case was reported on January 30 in Kerala, the epidemic has expanded its footprints in the country, affecting more than 1.25 lakh people.
The country is under lockdown since 25th March and it has been extended till 31st May 2020 in four phases. Today is the tenth day of the fourth phase of the nationwide lockdown to curb the spread of Covid-19.
Though the number of new cases and death rate has decreased since a couple of days today the number of death has increased from 146 to 170. Number of new cases is slowly decreasing with rise in recovery cases for the past few days which lowered the active cases too.  India faced an alarming rise in new cases a few days back and it has registered the highest single day spike during May 25 (6,977 cases). Consecutively it had increased as follows: May 24 (6,767 cases), May 23 (6,654 cases), May 22 (6,088 cases), May 20 (5,611 cases), May 21 (5,609) and May 18 (5,242 cases) in the last seven days.

The jump in cases, officials have pointed out, also corresponds to a rise in testing as 1 lakh samples have been tested daily for five days in a row now. Over the last two months, India has increased its testing capacity from 1,000 tests per day in March to one lakh tests daily tests.
Having more than trebled daily testing over a month, India is now gearing up to ramp it to 2 lakh a day. While the daily average has crossed 1 lakh tests, private laboratories, who fought long and hard to be allowed to test, have contributed to less than 20% of the total samples tested daily. This despite the fact that they make up almost 30% of the laboratory infrastructure.
Indian express reported that an analysis of testing records between April 16 and May 23 reveals that while tests in government labs went up by almost 270 per cent from 23,932 to 88,947, for private labs the figure rose more sharply, just under four times, from 4408 to 21450.
But as share of tests, on April 16, private labs did a little over 15 per cent of the total 28,340 tests done that day. And on May 23, that figure was just 19% of the total 1,10,397 tests.
