4 found positive in Alipurduar- Baby girl of Covid mother tests negative- Automated RNA Extractor installed in NBMCH- Rapid rise in number of new cases in the state from 183 to 344 - In GTA area 69 (yesterday 98) in institutional and 3111 (yesterday 3151) in home quarantine.

KalimNews, Kalimpong, 28 May 2020: 

4 people tested Covid-19 positive: 4 people of Jateshwar, Kathalbari, Ethelbari, Bhutnirghat under Alipurduar district are found to be positive to Covid-19. Two young girl and 2 young boys (within 24-30 year) had a travel history. One of them had arrived from Delhi and all four were admitted at Jateshwar institutional quarantine centre on 16th May and their swab samples taken on 17th May. Three of them were released from the centre and advised to stay at home quarantine without waiting for the test report to be out by the VRDL. They received their report yesterday. They are admitted at Dr. Chang's Covid hospital. All 24 persons belonging to the families of the four are admitted at quarantine centres. Secondary contacts of their family members are being traced out.

NORTH BENGAL 

Covid hospital

9 patients admitted: 9 patients are admitted in Dr. Chang’s Super Speciality Covid Hospital. They are 4 patients of Alipurduar; a person of Adarshanagar, Ward no. 4 SMC who had been to Delhi; a patient of Bangladesh but residing with a relative of Pundibari-Coochbehar admitted yesterday with a history of travel to Chennai for treatment; a woman of Kholtajote of Khoribari suffering from cancer travelled from Mumbai; a girl of 8 from Malda suffering from leukemia and a kidney patient of Nepali Busty – Bhaktinagar area of ward no 34 near NJP bridge who had returned from Chennai.

So far 28 patients have recovered and released from Dr. Chang’s Covid-19 hospital.

Relatives of all the Covid positive patients are kept in quarantine and their swab tests done and waiting for their result.

DESUN (SARI)

In DESUN severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) Hospital, 12 patients are admitted and those testing negative are sent to their wards.On patient is in ICU.

NBMCH

4 patients with symptoms similar to Covid-19:  Presently with symptoms similar to Covid 19, 4 patients are admitted in Isolation ward- 2 of gynecological maternity department. 

A Covid positive woman of Naxalbari who gave birth to a baby girl two days ago is also admitted here in surgical Isolation ward, the baby girl has tested negative in the first test. Source of contamination of the woman is still under investigation.   

RNA Extractor machine installed: To ease the swab sample testing for Covid-19 by RT-PCR, RNA Extractor machine is installed at VRDL of North Bengal Medical College and Hospital. It will be an alternative for manual RNA extraction. By automated extracting more number of samples can be tested as this will hasten the RNA extraction process. It will require less number of man power. This first step of automated RNA extracting will also be fast thus saving the time. It will start functioning after a few experimental tests.

1 patient of Darjeeling is admitted yesterday in DESUN severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) Hospital.

69 (yesterday 98) persons are in institutional and 3111 (yesterday 3151) are in home quarantine of Gorkhaland Territorial Administration. 

Institutional quarantine facilities:-

In Batasia TB Hospital 8 persons are admitted, 2 released. 

In Mungpoo ITI at Takdah 4 persons, 1 released.

11 are admitted in Old Railway Hospital of Kurseong. 

At Pokhriabong PHC 1 is admitted. 

At Mirik College 5 are admitted, 27 are released. 

At Jamuni GTA Guest House, Pulbazar, 40 are admitted.

69 (yesterday 98) persons are now in 6 different institutional quarantines. 

With the home coming of students and other people from other states, the number of people in home quarantine at their residence in the district of Darjeeling is increased from 1949 to 2069 while in Kalimpong district it is decreased from 1202 to 1042. 

Altogether there are 3111 (yesterday 3151) persons in home quarantine. Those who recently came from different states are now kept in the institutional quarantines till their swab test result confirms their negative to Covid-19. Swab testing so far has tested negative of all the travelers.

STATE 

KalimNews, Kalimpong, 28 May 2020: Todays report states a steep rise in number of new cases and active cases is recorded.

In the state 344 new cases (1 day before-183, 2 days before- 193) and 6 death (1 day before-6 , 2 days before-5) and  90  recovery (1 day before-92, 2 days before-72) is recorded today.

The total number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in West Bengal is 4536 (1 day before-4192, 2 days before-4009) while active cases is 2573 (1 day before-2325, 2 days before-2240) and death toll till now is 223 (1 day before-217, 2 days before-211). 

There is 72 death due to Co-morbidity while 1668 (1 day before-1578, days before-1486) are released after recovery. Recovery rate is 37.64%

The testing of swab samples for Covid-19 in 38, ICMR testing labs is being done at a very good rate and today 9256 (1 day before-9236, 2 days before--9228) samples within 24 hour were tested that tally 175769 (1 day before-166513, 2 days before-157277) till now since day 1.   

Today 109557 persons (1 day before-105465, 2 days before- 103564) are currently under home quarantine/ observation/ surveillance and total 191990 persons (1 day before-186707, 2 days before-183040) were in the home quarantine/ observation/ surveillance.

Number of people released from home quarantine was (1 day before-81242, 2 days before-79476).

Currently in the 582 institutional government quarantine centres there are    17421 persons (1 day before-18121, 2 days before-18146) and so far from these centres 46027 persons (1 day before-44075, 2 days before-42202) were released in the past.

Currently in the state there are 69 Hospitals dedicated for treating COVID-19, 16 Government Covid hospitals and 53 Private Covid-19 hospitals.
