Educational institutions to remain closed till 30 June..college and university authority are at liberty to decide on the reopening
KalimNews, 27 May 2020, Kalimpong: All educational institutions of the state shall remain closed till 30th June 2020. Addressing a press conference, Partha Chatterjee, education minister said that all government, sponsored and government recognised schools will follow the directives of the education department regarding the closure of the schools and resuming classes.
Explaining the reasons of extension of the closure of schools he clarified that earlier government had declared that school will remain closed till 10th June. But due to the devastating effect of the Cyclone Amphan, various school buildings of South Bengal are damaged, at the same time some schools are being used as relief and quarantine centres and some more may be opened in them.
He also reminded that Higher secondary examination will be conducted in 1058 centres as notified earlier on 29 June, 2 and 6 July. All precautionary measures for conducting examination will be taken as per SOP though 462 examination venues have been damaged.
He added that, however, colleges and universities will decide themselves whether to reopen colleges and universities after June 10 or not. They themselves will determine regarding the date of resuming of classes. They have the liberty to decide on this matter and if they desire, may consult the state government.
