Child dies at NBMCH, 45 admitted
SNS, SILIGURI, 7 OCTOBER 2021: A four-month-old baby from Cooch Behar suffering from heart disease died at the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) in the past 24 hours, sources said.
NBMCH authorities said no death had been reported due to fever and acute respiratory infections (ARI) during this period. However, there are 10 new fever and ARI patients, among the 45 children admitted in the past 24 hours.
Sources said 32 children suffering from fever and respiratory distress were undergoing treatment in the NBMCH.
Meanwhile, a monthly meeting on maternal mortality was held here today. The deputy chief medical officer of health-III, Darjeeling, Dr. Sanyukta Liu, held the meeting. "Maternal mortality has come down to a large extent at the NBMCH as compared to the previous years," said the NBMCH principal, Prof Indrajit Saha.
"Many of them are reluctant to visit hospitals for health check-ups, fearing a loss of a day's wage. The low haemoglobin levels also make it increasingly difficult for doctors to save patients, especially when there is loss of blood in the24 hours after childbirth," the sources said.
