Deb prod on Darjeeling TMC win
BIRESWAR BANERJEE, TT, 07 Jan 2019, Siliguri: Bengal tourism minister Gautam Deb on Sunday asked Trinamul supporters to ensure that the party won the Darjeeling Lok Sabha seat in the coming general elections by "a lead of at least one lakh votes" in the plains.
"Come what may be, Trinamul candidate will win Darjeeling seat in the ensuing Lok Sabha polls. The Trinamul candidate will go to Delhi by securing a comfortable margin and we have to work to ensure a lead of at least one lakh votes in the plains," Deb, who is also the Darjeeling district president of Trinamul, said after attending a meeting of party workers at New Jalpaiguri.
Asked if Trinamul would seek the support of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha headed by Binay Tamang, Deb said a decision on it would be taken by Mamata Banerjee.
Trinamul has never won the Darjeeling Lok Sabha seat which went to the BJP for two times in a trot.
In 2014, Trinamul had fielded footballer Bhaichung Bhutia and he lost to the BJP's S.S. Ahluwalia by 1.97 lakh votes.
