JMM demands Dooars-Terai autonomous council
Rajesh Pradhan, EOI, BANARHAT, 19 Jan 2014: The North Bengal branch of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha demanded a separate administrative set-up for Dooars-Terai region. Informing about the demand JMM regional committee vice president Peter Minj said proper development of the region is possible only through an autonomous council.
He said the party will place the demand for an autonomous council before the state government. Minj stated the Tribal Advisory Council granted by the state government is incapable of fostering development in the region; instead it has possibilities of creating communal divide among the residents of the region.
Minj also clarified the party will not take part in the felicitation ceremony of Chief Minister Mamata Bannerjee in Dooars that will take place in February 12.
“The decision of Adivasi Vikash Parishad Birsa faction to felicitate Mamata Bannerjee, is their own. JMM and PTWU will not attend the program. We are resolute on the demand for a different set-up for Dooars” Minj noted.
He also said the party will be contented only if the government considers an autonomous council for Dooars-Terai.
