SNS, SILIGURI, 20 MAY 2020: The health department has advised 10 family members of a woman in Mirik in Darjeeling to remain in home quarantine after a family member, who had left for Assam some days ago, tested positive for Covid-19 in the neighbouring state. Chief medical officer of health of Darjeeling Dr Pralay Acharya today said the 10 members had come in direct contact with the woman.
"Samples of their throat swabs have been collected and sent to the Viral Research & Diagnostics laboratory at the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (in Siliguri) for tests," Dr Acharya said.
Sources in Mirik said that panic has gripped people in Soureni, where the woman originally hails from.
Meanwhile, the district administration is set to declare some parts of Ward 6 under the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) as 'containment zones,' following the detection of two positive cases. Another positive case has been found in Ward 27 too.
Siliguri Sub Divisional officer Sumant Sahay said that since two positive cases were traced there, some portions of the ward will be declared as containment zones.
"The containment zones have been downsized across the state to offer a relaxation to the people. The zones have been divided into three categories. 'A', 'B' and 'C' refer to affected area or containment zone, buffer zone and clean areas, respectively. No activity will be allowed in the containment zones, while some activities will be allowed with certain restrictions and there will be almost normal activities in the clean areas," an administrative officer said.
Technicians develop symptoms: Two technicians working with a medical team treating Covid-19 patients at Dr Chang's Super Specialty Hospital at Matigara was admitted in Desun Hospital in the town after they developed Covid-like symptoms. The health department said it is waiting for test reports.
Covid -19 patients discharged: Three persons undergoing treatment for Covid- 19 were released from Dr Chang's (Covid) Hospital today. A 48-year-old resident of Malda district was admitted there on 27 April, while two residents of Alipurduar district, 51 and 48, were admitted on 1 May.
Five test positive in Raiganj:Five fresh COVID positive cases have been detected in Kaliyaganj and Raiganj in North Dinajpur district, sources
said. Three youths are residents of Mastarpara of Dalimgaon in Kaliyaganj and the other two are residents of Kumrol and Vitihar in Raiganj, they added.
"Ail of them are migrant workers and they returned from Delhi and Maharastra recently. Police have sealed the villages concerned in Kaliyaganj. The number of COVID positive patients has gone up to 15 in the Raiganj sub -division of North Dinajpur district," sources said.
Superintendent of Police of North Dinajpur Sumit Kumar and IC Kaliyaganj Police station, Ashis Dolui visited Daligaon this afternoon.
"We visited the village today to check whether the villagers were following the restrictions and orders imposed by the administration," the superintendent of police said.
Jalpaiguri nursing student positive: In Jalpaiguri, a nursing student of Bahirapara Garalbari under the Kotwali police station, has tested positive for Covid-19, an official said today.
With the case of the nursing student of the Chittaranjan SevaSadan in Kolkata, the Jalpaiguri health department has recorded the district's fifth positive Covid- 19 case.
The girl belonging to the minority community had returned home with 31 other nursing students in a bus provided by the state government a few days ago, it is learnt. Among the returnees, 19 students are residents of Cooch Behar and 13 are from different areas in Jalpaiguri.
'the officer on special duty for Covid-19 in north Bengal, Dr Sushanta Roy, said the girl was admitted in a Covid Hospital in Jalpaiguri town and that she was stable.
