Tenyimi Union Calls for Action Following Killing of Six Nagas in Manipur
It also expressed serious concern over the rising incidence of crimes against women and children.
The resolutions were adopted at the first Annual General Session of the Tenyimi Union Nagaland (TUN), an apex body of five tribes in the state – Angami, Chakhesang, Pochury, Rengma and Zeliang – held under the theme "Progressive Society through Unity" at the Angami Gazetted Officers' Krotho Building, Badze, Meriema, here.
Adopting a strong resolution, the TUN condemned what it described as the "brutal murder" of six innocent Nagas in Kangpokpi district of Manipur, allegedly by Kuki militants earlier this month.
The union termed the killings "unimaginable, ruthless and inhuman" and called on the Governments of Manipur and India, along with law enforcement agencies, to immediately identify and arrest those responsible.
It demanded that the accused be awarded the highest punishment permissible under the law, warning that any delay in delivering justice could have "serious repercussions".
The union also voiced grave concern over the increasing cases of crimes against women and children, stating that no society can progress when the dignity and safety of women and children are under constant threat.
Blaming delays in the justice delivery system for emboldening offenders, the TUN called for swift justice in every case of sexual abuse involving women and children.
