Kalimpong Police Seek Public Assistance After Burglary at Relli Road Residence

KalimNews, June 24, 2026, Kalimpong: A major burglary at a residence in Himali Nagar on Relli Road has prompted Kalimpong Police to launch an intensive investigation and appeal to the public for assistance in identifying the suspects.

The incident took place during the night of June 21–22, 2026, when two unidentified individuals allegedly broke into the house of Ratna Bahadur Sashankar while he and his family were away in Siliguri for a four-day visit. Taking advantage of the family's absence, the intruders reportedly forced their way into the residence by breaking the main door lock and thoroughly searched the premises.

According to preliminary findings, the burglars made away with gold ornaments valued at approximately Rs 15 lakh, cash, and receipts related to the jewellery that had been stored in the house. The theft was discovered on the morning of June 22 when close relatives visited the property and noticed that the main door lock had been broken. The house owner was immediately informed, following which the matter was reported to the police.

Investigators believe that the two suspects are between 18 and 30 years of age. They are described as having a lean build and being approximately 5 feet 4 inches tall. CCTV footage recovered from locations near the scene has provided investigators with visual leads, and efforts are underway to identify and trace the individuals involved.

Kalimpong Police stated that this is the first reported burglary in the area in nearly four months. Officers said that regular night foot patrols are already being conducted and raids are being carried out at suspected hideouts as part of the ongoing investigation. The police have expressed confidence that the culprits will be identified and apprehended.

Authorities have urged residents to come forward with any information that may assist the investigation. Anyone who recognises the individuals seen in the recovered footage or possesses relevant information is requested to contact the Inspector-in-Charge of Kalimpong Police Station via WhatsApp at +91 91478 89083.

Police have assured the public that the identity of all informants will be kept strictly confidential. In addition, a cash reward will be offered to individuals whose information directly contributes to the identification and arrest of the accused.

The investigation is continuing, and police are examining all available evidence in an effort to bring those responsible to justice as quickly as possible.
