Rebel TMC MLA States Position on Support for Mamata Banerjee
“Our leader is Mamata Banerjee only if she keeps Abhishek Banerjee away. Then we do not have any problem staying by her side,” Akhruzzaman said.
He is a key figure in the faction of 58 rebel TMC MLAs.
TMC MLA Ritabrata Banerjee, who heads the rebel faction of MLAs, however, claimed a few days ago that the number of MLAs in their camp has gone up to 64 from the earlier 58.
The dissident group formally submitted a letter to the Speaker nominating Ritabrata Banerjee as the Leader of the Opposition and Akhruzzaman as the Chief Whip.
While pledging allegiance to Mamata, Akhruzzaman and the other rebel leaders completely rejected Abhishek Banerjee’s leadership, stating that they accept Mamata only as their chief adviser.
Javed Khan, Sandipan Saha and Shiuli Saha were nominated as deputy leaders.
On the other hand, leaders such as Sovandeb Chattopadhyay, Madan Mitra and Kunal Ghosh and some others had stayed away from the rebel faction.
