Taking to social media, residents demanded stronger action against rising street crimes.

They have also demanded stringent security measures on the district’s highways.

A prayer meeting and candlelight vigil were held on Sunday evening.

The victim, Chandrima Jha (25), a resident of Hariyagarh village in Sattari under English Bazar, worked at a private bank branch in Sujapur, Kaliachak.

On June 11, she and her colleague Jhuma Haldar were returning to Sujapur from Axis Bank’s Malda Main Branch on a scooter.
