One Arrested in Surendranath College Cash and Arms Recovery Case

MP, June 5, 2026, Kolkata: The Anti-Rowdy Squad (ARS) of Kolkata Police has arrested a close associate of TMC leader Debasish Banerjee in connection with the recovery of soiled and damaged currency notes, along with a firearm, from Surendranath College.

On Tuesday, the college authorities allegedly discovered two suitcases containing soiled and damaged Indian currency notes in a room on the campus.

Based on a complaint lodged by the authorities, police registered a case against Banerjee and a college vendor, Paritosh Dutta, under charges of criminal conspiracy, criminal trespass, mischief and criminal intimidation.

However, both accused named in the FIR were absconding.

Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid in Burdwan and arrested Dutta.

He was subsequently brought to Kolkata and produced before the Sealdah Court with a plea for police custody.

Following the hearing, the court remanded Dutta to police custody until June 17.

Investigators are currently interrogating him to ascertain the whereabouts of Banerjee and gather further details related to the case.
