Humayun Kabir Offers Rejinagar Seat to Mamata Banerjee
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Kabir said the current political situation in West Bengal has left him deeply pained and stressed that Banerjee’s presence in the Assembly is necessary for a healthy democratic opposition.
Kabir offered the Rejinagar Assembly seat, from which he has resigned, to Banerjee, stating that a leader of her stature should have a place in the legislature.
He said he would be willing to facilitate her return to the Assembly if she chooses to contest from the constituency. He expressed confidence in winning that seat.
The AUJP chief, who had campaigned aggressively against the Trinamool Congress after parting ways with the party, acknowledged Banerjee’s importance in Bengal politics.
He maintained that political disagreements should not come in the way of ensuring a strong opposition voice in the House.
Kabir’s remarks mark a notable departure from his pre-election stance. Having positioned himself as a vocal critic of the Trinamool leadership during the campaign, he now appears open to re-evaluating political equations in the larger interest of the state.
