Several TMC leaders, aides held across West Bengal ahead of Falta re-poll

PTI, May 17, 2026, Kolkata : In a series of police actions ahead of the Falta re-poll, several leaders and associates linked to the Trinamool Congress were arrested across West Bengal on Friday.

The day began with the arrest of Saidul Khan, considered a close aide of Jahangir Khan, during a late-night raid in South 24-Parganas. Police said Saidul was wanted in multiple criminal cases, including charges of attempted murder, intimidation and political violence, and was taken into custody days before the May 21 re-poll.

Hours later, addressing his first political rally in Falta, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari launched a sharp attack on Jahangir Khan. “Where is Pushpa now? Why is he not being seen? No one will be allowed to create unrest this time,” Adhikari said.

In another development, police arrested Uttam Das, brother of TMC MLA Paresh Ram Das, from Canning in connection with multiple criminal allegations linked to post-counting violence.

In Andal, a former TMC block president was also taken into custody in a separate criminal case.

The back-to-back arrests and sharp political exchanges have intensified the atmosphere in South Bengal ahead of the Falta re-poll, where security has been tightened.
