Kalimpong Sees Early Lead as First Two Round Results Are Announced

KalimNews, Kalimpong, May 4, 2026 : The first round of counting results from the Kalimpong Assembly Constituency has been declared approximately one and a half hours after counting began at 8:00 AM today at the SUM Institution complex in Kalimpong.

According to the initial trends, Bharat Kumar Chhetri of the Bharatiya Janata Party has taken an early lead over Ruden Sada Lepcha of the Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha by a margin of 101 votes.

The vote tally after the first round stands as follows:

  • Bharat Kumar Chhetri (BJP): 12329 votes
  • Ruden Sada Lepcha (BGPM): 12,228 votes
  • Bhernone Britto Lepcha (Independent - IGJF): 3254 votes
  • Sisir Kumar Sharma (ABGL): 371 votes
  • Santa Kumar Pradhan (INC): 313 votes
  • Rita Thapa (CPI(M)): 179 votes
  • Aldrin Lepcha: 359 votes
  • NOTA: 397 votes

The total number of votes counted in this round is  29.430.

As counting continues, the early lead sets the tone for what is shaping up to be a closely watched contest in Kalimpong.
