Counting Day Begins Across West Bengal’s Assembly Constituencies
Several of these constituencies carry significant weight, as their outcomes
are expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the fortunes of candidates
contesting across the state. The results from these seats will collectively
influence the final political landscape emerging from this election.
West Bengal has a total electorate of 36,077,171 voters across 294
Assembly constituencies. However, the result for the Falta constituency will be
declared later, on May 28, 2026, following a repoll scheduled for May 21, 2026.
Falta alone accounts for 236,444 voters.
Excluding Falta, the remaining 293 constituencies together represent
35,840,727 voters. Notably, voter participation reached an impressive 93.19% on
polling day, reflecting strong public engagement and enthusiasm in the
democratic process.
The counting of votes has commenced in seven constituencies spread
across Karnataka, Nagaland, Gujarat, and Maharashtra, where by-elections were
conducted last month following the unfortunate demise of sitting MLAs. These
elections are being closely watched, as they will determine new representatives
in constituencies left vacant under unexpected circumstances.
Meanwhile, the by-election in the Ponda constituency of Goa has been
declared null and void by the Bombay High Court, adding a significant legal
dimension to the electoral process in the state.
The constituencies where results are being counted today include Bagalkot
and Davanagere South in Karnataka; Baramati and Rahuri in Maharashtra; Koridang
in Nagaland; Dharmanagar in Tripura; and Umreth in Gujarat.
As counting progresses, these results will play an important role in
reshaping the political equations within their respective states.
A total of 167,424 voters from the Kalimpong Assembly Constituency
exercised their democratic right on April 28, 2026. Today, their collective
decision is being revealed as the counting of votes takes place at the
designated counting centre in Kalimpong.
The counting process is being conducted at the SUM Institution, which
has been placed under strict security arrangements. The premises have been
fortified and are being closely monitored by officials, staff, and security
personnel deployed under the supervision of the Election Commission of India.
These measures ensure that the counting process remains transparent, orderly,
and secure.
As the results unfold, all eyes are on Kalimpong, where voters’ choices
will soon shape the constituency’s political direction for the coming term.
