Kalimpong Assembly Seat: BJP’s Bharat Kumar Chettri Leads After 5th Round
As per the latest figures, Chettri has polled 36,922 votes, maintaining a lead of 8,668 votes over his nearest rival, Ruden Sada Lepcha of the Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha, who has secured 28,254 votes so far.
Independent candidate Bhernone Britto Lepcha of IGJF is currently in third place with 7,194 votes. Other candidates, including Santa Kumar Pradhan of the Indian National Congress and Sisir Kumar Sharma of the Akhil Bharatiya Gorkha League, are trailing with under 1,000 votes each at this stage.
Rita Thapa of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has also received a modest number of votes. The NOTA (None of the Above) option has polled 961 votes so far.
With seven rounds of counting still remaining, the contest is not yet finalized. However, the early trend indicates a significant advantage for the BJP candidate. Political observers caution that while the lead is substantial, the final outcome will depend on the remaining rounds of counting.
Further updates are expected as counting progresses.
