KalimNews, Kalimpong, May 4, 2026 :The vote counting for the Kalimpong Legislative Assembly constituency has reached a crucial stage, with nine out of twelve rounds completed. Early trends indicate that Bharat Kumar Chettri of the Bharatiya Janata Party is firmly ahead in the contest.

As per the latest tally, Chettri has secured 67,152 votes, putting him well ahead of his nearest rival, Ruden Sada Lepcha of the Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha, who has garnered 52,073 votes so far.

The difference between the top two candidates currently stands at a substantial 15,079 votes, giving the BJP candidate a commanding lead with three rounds of counting still remaining.

In the race for third place, Independent candidate Bhernone Britto Lepcha has polled 12,369 votes. Other candidates trail significantly behind, including Sisir Kumar Sharma with 1,633 votes and Santa Kumar Pradhan of the Indian National Congress with 1,503 votes.

With a lead exceeding fifteen thousand votes, Bharat Kumar Chettri appears to be in a very strong position at this stage. However, election officials stress that the final result will only be declared after all twelve rounds of counting are completed.

The remaining rounds will determine whether the current trend holds or if any late shifts alter the final outcome in this key hill constituency.
