Upper Dalapchand of Lava Block Declared "Cleanest Village" of Kalimpong District on Gandhi Jayanti

KalimNews, October 2, 2024, Kalimpong : On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Upper Dalapchand Busty in the Lava Block of Kalimpong District proudly earned the title of "Cleanest Village" in the district. This remarkable achievement is credited to the initiative led by Panchayat Pradhan Rajani Tamang, whose efforts have transformed the village into a model of cleanliness and community pride. The entire village celebrated this milestone with great enthusiasm.

The declaration was made official by Balasubramanian T., the Kalimpong District Magistrate, who inaugurated the celebration, praising the collective efforts of the community. The event was also attended by Pritam Limboo, the Spl. LAO; Bharti Chik Baraik, the Block Development Officer of Lava Block; Manisha Lama, the Officer-in-Charge of Lava Police Station; Sangey Chhyom Bhutia, Sabhapati of Lava Panchayat Samiti; Rajani Tamang, Pradhan of Dalapchand Gram Panchayat; Junu Shankar, Karmadhyakshya; and numerous members of self-help groups, all of whom joined in the festivities marked by cultural performances.

In his address, Balasubramanian T. , the District Magistrate urged the citizens to continue promoting eco-friendly tourism and emphasized the critical role of cleanliness in sustaining both tourism and community health. "Together we can make Hamro Kalimpong, Ramro Kalimpong," he remarked, encouraging collective action for a cleaner future.

The celebrations began with a cycle rally participated in by the members of the Kalimpong Cyclist Association, flagged off from Damber Chowk in Kalimpong town by the District Magistrate. The cycle rally was organized by the Kalimpong District Tourism Welfare Society (KDTWS) and was originally scheduled for 27 September on the occasion of World Tourism Day but was postponed due to continuous heavy rain. The event, jointly organized by KDTWS, the District Administration, and the Lava Block Development Office, aimed to promote eco-friendly tourism and community engagement in line with the goals of the Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 campaign.

Block Development Officer Bharti Chik Baraik assured her commitment to further collaborate with the KDTWS for continued community development. Panchayat Pradhan Rajani Tamang also affirmed plans to continue working with various departments to ensure ongoing progress for Upper Dalapchand.
