EOI, DARJEELING, APRIL 24,2024 : Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha President Anit Thapa on Wednesday lauded the peaceful pre-poll campaign in the hills of Darjeeling and Kalimpong by various political parties in fray for the parliamentary election on April 26.In the lead up to the poll in the first phase, there were reports of some violence in the neighbouring areas, like Cooch Behar.
"Today marks the culmination of the election campaign in Darjeeling, and we are proud to announce that throughout this entire period, not a single incidence of violence has marred our region. Amidst the scorching heat wave gripping Bengal, Darjeeling has remained remarkably cool both in terms of temperature and political atmosphere," Thapa said.
He attributed the peaceful atmosphere to the efforts of his party to maintain stability in the region. "For the past eight years, our unwavering commitment to maintaining peace in the hills and establishing Darjeeling as a strike-free zone has been our foremost priority.
Despite provocations from certain quarters, we have stood firm in our resolve to uphold peace and stability in our beloved region," he said. The BGPM president urged rival political parties to unite for the betterment of Darjeeling, inspite of the election humbug.
"We appeal to our political opponents to remember that the competition ends at the ballot box. We extend our hand of camaraderie beyond the realm of electoral rivalry. Tomorrow we must unite for the betterment of Darjeeling. Our collective focus should be on the holistic development and prosperity of the Darjeeling hills, transcending political differences," Thapa said.
The BGPM President urged the voters and the political parties to cast their ballots against falsehood and deception and to uphold the spirit of positivity and cooperation.
