Anit Thapa promises land to all in hills

YOWAN MOTHAY, EOI, KALIMPONG, SEPTEMBER 9, 2023 : Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha president Anit Thapa on Saturday promised to give all people in the hills the right to land.
“Whether it is five decimals or five acres, I will give the right to land to all,” he said.
“Let us not drown the people by politicizing the issue of land, just as we had drowned the issue of Gorkhaland by politicizing it.”
The BGPM president was speaking on the occasion of the third foundation day of BGPM at Kalimpong Mela Ground during the day.
He said BGPM was the only political party in the history of the hills to fulfil its promises within two years of its formation. The issue of Gorkhaland would not be settled by political parties but by the people, he said. The reason why the Nepali language had got constitutional recognition was that it was not a movement of political parties.
“We have won 92 percent of the gram panchayat votes. We must continue this victory,” he said.
Emphasizing on the need for Gorkhas to celebrate their festival according to their culture, he said; “Our culture is under attack. Culture was also attacked in Nepali- dominated Siliguri. We became scattered. Our culture, festivals and religion should be celebrated. Gorkha culture and traditions should be preserved.”
