Mr Thapa and GTA Principal Secretary S Ponnambalam, who is also the Darjeeling District Magistrate, and other officials, including the Vice Chancellor of the NBU Om Prakash Mishra, discussed issues related to the Darjeeling Hill University and "lack of system" in secondary and higher secondary education in the Hills.
"I will go to Kolkata in the first week of January 2023 to sort out the problems we have discussed with the minister today," Mr Thapa said after the meeting.
"Apart from the establishment problems of the Hill University, there are many other problems in the Hills. There is no system of School Service Commission and even no system of recruitment of teachers through TET.

"To further strengthen the bond between the university and affiliated colleges, the Minister and Vice-Chancellor held a meeting cum interactive discussion with Principals of 40 NBU-affiliate colleges," an official said. Principals raised several issues, including acute shortage of non - teaching staff and lack of basic infrastructure, sources said.
Sources said the Minister assured them that an advertisement will be published within six months for recruitment through the College Service Commission.
Officials of the Primary School Council urged him to take initiatives for fresh transparent recruitment process to "recover the image of the present government following the recruitment scam unveiled by an investigation conducted by central agencies."
