Silk Route Festival to begin in Kalimpong tomorrow
YOWAN MOTHAY, EOI, KALIMPONG, NOVEMBER 1, 2022: The Silk Route Festival will be held from November 3 to November 7 at the regulated market premises in Kalimpong. The main attraction of the festival is the marathon that will be held on November 5 and 6, Chairman of Mani Trust Subash Mani Singh told reporters on Tuesday.
He said the purpose of the festival was to revive the legacy of the Silk Route and to improve the economic condition of Kalimpong. The Silk Route Festival was not only for the organizing committee but for all the residents of Kalimpong.
He called up on everyone to participate in the festival. Marathon runner Dharma said the Silk Route Festival marathons would be in four categories: Kalimpong Silk Route Seventh Heaven for seven kms, Half Marathon 21.1km, Full Marathon 42.2 km and Eastern Himalaya Silk Route Ultra Marathon that would start from Aritar in Sikkim.
The marathon would be led by bike rallies and other vehicles. All the facilities would be provided to the marathon runners.
Marathon runners from Kalimpong, Darjeeling, Siliguri, Nepal, Bhutan, Sikkim and other Indian provinces would participate in the marathon.
Colonel M. S.Gurung said the army would have full support in the marathon and army soldiers would also participate in the marathon.
