SNS, SILIGURI, 1 JUNE : The Siliguri Regional unit of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested two persons and recovered 550 grams of heroin and methamphetamine from their possession at the Siliguri Junction area today.
The duo has been identified as Md Riyajuddin, 42, a resident of Thouban in Manipur and Abdul Rashid, 53, a resident Cachar district in Assam. DRI officials seized 550 grams of heroin stored in 50 small packets, and 10,000 pieces of methamphetamine, it is learnt. The value of the seized narcotics has been estimated at Rs 3,2600500, DRI sources said.
According to the lawyer representing the DRI, Ratan Battik, the duo was produced in the court, which sent them in 14 days' judicial custody.
"The duo gave the officials false names to mislead them. During further grilling, they revealed their real identity," he said.
