Two Covid patients die in Siliguri


SNS, SILIGURI , 15 JANUARY 20222: A 58-year-old Covid resident of Oodlabari in Jalpaiguri district died in the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) today, sources said. A 50-year-old resident of Phansidewa in Darjeeling district near Siliguri also died there, the sources added.
Meanwhile, one of the passengers injured in the Bikaner-Guwahati Express train accident in Jalpaiguri on 13 January has tested positive for the virus, it is learnt. The injured passenger is undergoing treatment in the NBMCH.
According to NBMCH authorities, six other persons injured in the train accident, however, tested negative for Covid-19. The minister for disaster management & relief, Rajasthan government, Govind Ram Meghwal, who had visited the NBMCH yesterday, called the acting NBMCH.
Dr Jagadish Biswas, today to inquire about the health condition of two Rajasthan residents admitted in the health facility here.
Nine passengers died when the Guwahati-bound train derailed at Domohoni under the Maynaguri block in Jalpaiguri district on 13 January.
541 new cases in Darjeeling district: Darjeeling district today recorded 541 new cases of Covid-19. Sources said 238 cases were found in areas of Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) that fall run der Darjeeling district, while Darjeeling
Municipality detected 27 cases. A total of 49 cases were found in SMC areas that are under Jalpaiguri district.
Sukna recorded 14 cases, Kurseong Municipality 21, Mirik six, Mirik Municipality seven, Bijanbari Sukhia Pokhari 12, Takdah seven, Kharibari in the plains six, Matigara 121, Naxalbari 36, and Phansidewa 31 new cases of the virus, the sources said.
Also today, 218 Covid patients were either discharged from hospitals after recovery or they ended their home isolation, the sources added.

Covid protocols. Despite an unprecedented spike in Covid19 cases, many people are still not wearing masks and showing reluctance to undergo tests.
Siliguri Fights Corona, a consortium of several voluntary organisations, which has been conducting awareness drives on Covid-19 almost for the past two years, is now holding programmes in markets. "The markets are places where most of the people turn up, where large gatherings are seen, and where rampant violation of Covid appropriate-behaviour is always observed. Therefore, we are oragnising the awareness programmmes in the markets," said the programme coordinator of the Himalayan Nature and Adventure Foundation (I NAP), Animesh Bose.
