Docs confirm man got two vaccine shots on same day: vaccinated at Chayanpara SIliguri SMC run UPHC

SNS, SILIGURI, 2 JULY 21 :
Doctors who examined a Siliguri resident, Sujit Chandra Debnath, who has alleged that he had been administered the Covid-19 vaccine twice on a single day, confirmed that he had indeed received two shots.
Mr Debnath, in his mid 50s, alleged that health workers at the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC)-run Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) at Chayan Para had vaccinated him with Covishield on 29 June. The health workers concerned, however, insisted that he had been given a single dose. The health department, on the other hand, has said it was looking into the matter.
"I examined him at his residence today and found that he had been vaccinated twice. It should be a matter of concern, as even two doses of medicines like antacids, paracetamol are not taken at one go. We have assured him that he should not be worried and will keep in touch with him. However, the fact should not be suppressed," said the coordinator of the Siliguri chapter of Covid Care Network and president of 'My Doctors, SiIiguri Dr Kalyan Khan.
The condition of Mr Debnath is stable, and medical experts said he is unlikely to develop any serious reaction or symptoms even if he has leeched two doses on the single day.
SMC officials, meanwhile, said Mr Debnath had been kept under observation. "He is under observation and did not complain about any problem today,' said an official.
Sources at the health department of the civic body, however, still claimed he had been administered a single shot. "The vaccine could not be administered to the person initially therefore, he was given the dose later," sources said. Some doctors alleged negligence on the part of the health authorities.

Man claims UPHC gave him two vax shots on a single day
SNS, SILIGURI 1 JULY : A resident of Siliguri has alleged that he was given the Covid-19 vaccine twice on a single day at an Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) under the Siliguri Municipal Corporation. Health department officials of the civic body, however, ruled out any such possibility,.
Sujit Chandra Debnath, a resident of Bharat Nagar, said he had gone to the UPHC at Chayan Para on 29 June.
"After the first shot of the Covishield vaccine, health workers there asked me to stay for a while for observation. The three health workers were chatting with each other and suddenly they again pushed another dose within a span of a few minutes, when I sat on a chair near them. I questioned why they were administering the doses twice, and they argued saying I had been given only one dose. I showed them two different marks on my left arm. Then one of them said there will be no problem and advised me to take paracetamol and in case of any problem, contact her," said Mr Debnath, who runs a bookstore at Fuleswari. He added that he later tried calling on the number more than five times, only to get no response.
Mr Debnath's health condition is said to be stable and he did not develop any adverise reaction.
Denying the charges, the health workers present there said they had administered a single shot to Mr Debnath.
"He said a similar thing before us that day, but nothing like that actually happened. It could not be possible," one of the health workers said.
The SMC's health officer, Dr Sanjib Majumder, said they were looking into the matter and that such a thing "should not have happened."
Darjeeling district Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr Pralay Acharya too said they were looking into the matter.

Vaccination centre opens
An SMC-run vaccination centre for mothers of children up to 12 years of age was opened at the Siliguri Kanchanjugha Stadium hall today. The state government has decided to prioritise such mothers for vaccination ahead of the pandemic's anticipated third wave, during which there are fears that a large number of children could be infected. The chairperson of the board of administrators of the SMC, Gautam Deb, said there will be 10 more vaccine sites under the SMC which will cover vaccination of the population in all 47 wards. Mr Deb said an extended vaccination centre of the Siliguri District Hospital will be set up on another side of the stadium.

Forty patients admitted in the Covid Care Centre or field hospital at Tinbatti More have recovered in the past one month. The 20-bed hospital for mild and moderate Covid patients caters to the economically weaker sections of society and it was opened on 31 May with the joint initiative of the Siliguri Welfare Organisation, liver Foundation, Kolkata, ICC, North Bengal chapter, and Forum for Humanity.
