Four more black fungus cases in Siliguri: 223 new Covid cases in Darjeeling district
SNS, SILIGURI, 7JUN 21 : Four more persons have tested positive for mucormycosis or black fungus in Siliguri. They are undergoing treatment in the North Bengal Medical College and hospital (NBMCH). Sources said that among the four, a 42-year-old person, who had tested positive for Covid-19 also, died today. It is learnt that his death certificate, however, did not mention mucormycosis. A 48-year-old resident of Champasari, a 23-year-old from Thiknikata and a 32 year-old tea worker are presently admitted in the NBMCH, the sources said. While one of the three still has Covid-19, the two others have recovered from the virus.
Covid patients die
Around four persons who had tested positive for Covid-19 died at the NBMCH in the past 24 hours, and three more died in a private nursing home, sources said.
223 new Covid cases in Darjeeling district
Darjeeling district recorded a drop in new Covid-19 cases with 223 found today, sources said. The Siliguri Municipal Corporation area, including areas under Jalpaiguri district, reported 117 cases.
Thirty-one cases were found in Naxalbari, 27 in Matigara. 17 in Bijanbari, 14 in Sukna, 12 in Kharibari, 11 in Phansidewa, seven in Sukhia Pokhari, six in Takdah, three cases each in Kurseong Municipality and Mirik, two cases in Darjeeling Municipality and one in Mirik Municipality.
Meanwhile, 348 Covid patients recovered in the last 24 hours.
'Vaccine influence' slur on Trinamul Congress
Siiguri BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh today alleged that TrinamuI Congress leaders used their "influence" to inoculate partymen at the Siliguri Municipal Corporation-run Urban Primary Health Centre in Ward 47. Mr Ghosh said it was unfortunate that when common people had to wait in long queues, the ruling party was adopting such an unethical way." He said the same might have happened at other centres too. Trinamul Congress leaders, however, refuted the allegations.
Protest against Ramdev
The Medical Service Centre today demanded arrest of yoga televangelist Ramdev for his statements against Allopathy. Members of the Centre staged a protest at the NBMCH. The joint convener of the NBMCH and North Bengal Dental College and Hospital units of the Centre, Dr Swapnaleena Behura, said Ramdev's "irresponsible statements" disrespected the countless healthcare workers who had been saving lives of people from Covid-19. Dr Behura said such statements might encourage "unscientific rearmament" in society. According to her, at a time when vaccines have proved to be an effective tool in the fight against Covid-19, Ramdev has said that doctors had died inspite of them taking both the doses. The Centre also condemned attacks on doctors in Assam and Karnataka.
ASHA demand for kin vaccination
Accredited social health activists (ASHA) have demanded Covid-19 vaccination for their family members, Rs 15000 every month for their engagement in Covid-19 services, immediate payment of medical allowances oft 1 lakh for Covid-19, fixation of their minimum salary at Rs 21,000, among others. Activists under the banner of the Darjeeling district committee of the Paschim Banga ASHA Karmi Union served a memorandum to the office of the block medical officer of health at Sukna with their demands.
