2,486 new infections, 55 deaths in Bengal, 2,109 recoveries, total active cases 23,013

The state's recovery rate, which began declining on June 11 after 39 days of rise, fell to 97.283 per cent

The total number of active cases declined till June 9 by around 89 per cent to 14,702, from the peak of 1,32,181 on May 21. But since then, it rose again by over 56 per cent.
Meghdeep Bhattacharyya   |   TT  | Calcutta   |  20.06.21: Bengal on Saturday reported a rise for the 10th straight day in its total number of active Covid-19 cases, as 2,109 recoveries were logged against 2,486 new infections and 55 deaths.

With this, the total of active cases rose by 322, to 23,013.

The total number of active cases declined till June 9 by around 89 per cent to 14,702, from the peak of 1,32,181 on May 21. But since then, it rose again by over 56 per cent.

Bengal now has 3.14 per cent of India’s active cases, and is eighth among states with most active cases. Bengal’s recovery rate, which began declining on June 11 after 39 days of rise, fell to 97.283 per cent. The national recovery rate is 96.21. In a significant positive, the daily confirmation rate, which peaked in the second wave to nearly 33 per cent, fell to below 5 per cent on Saturday, to 4.68.

Bengal’s overall mortality rate, with 17,295 deaths in total, is 1.16 per cent, while the national rate is 1.29.

Of the 55 deaths reported on Saturday, nine were from Calcutta and 10 from North 24-Parganas, the two worst-affected districts. Calcutta logged 217 new infections, North 24-Parganas 364.
