Five Covid patients die at NBMCH: Darj cases see dip
SNS, SILIGURI, 25 JANUARY 22 : Five persons undergoing treatment for Covid-19 in the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) in Siliguri died in the past 24 hours, sources said.
A 65-year-old resident of Lake Town, a 60-year-old from Ghogomali, a 71-year-old of Bhaktinagar, all in Siliguri, a 35-year-old Cooch Behar resident and a Kalimpong resident had been undergoing treatment in the NBMCH after testing positive for Covid-19, sources said.
NBMCH sources said that around 22 persons who had tested positive for Covid- 19 died in the region's premier health facility this month.
According to the officer on special duty for public health in north Bengal, Dr Susanta Kumar Roy, most of the patients who have died came in to take admission with serious pe-existing diseases.
"The NBMCH is getting such patients who are suffering from serious complications and eventually testing positive for Covid-19. However, we have discussed the issue with the head of the department of medicine and the superintendent of the NBMCH today," said Dr Roy, who visited the health facility to physically review the progress of the work of the proposed integrated service on oncology. It is scheduled to be inaugurated by chief minister Mamata Banerjee on 4 February.
A total of 63 Covid patients are undergoing treatment in the NBMCH presently, the sources said.
Darj cases see dip
Meanwhile, the number of Covid -19 cases has decreased in Darjeeling district, according to reports issued by officials today. The district recorded 93 cases. The Siliguri Municipal Corporation detected 42 cases, while civic body areas covering Darjeeling district reported 34 cases. On the other hand, 329 people have recovered and they completed their home isolation in the past 24 hours, officials said.
