With 405, SMC sees record daily Covid cases, Darjeeling district recorded 496 cases

SNS, SILIGURI, 7 MAY 21 : 
Siliguri Municipal Corporation area registered a record 405 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, sources said. The civic body area covering Darjeeling district recorded 294 cases, while the remaining 111 cases were detected in portions that fall under Jalpaiguri district.

Darjeeling district recorded 496 cases in total. Eighty-six cases were found in Matiga ra block, 53 in Naxalbari,11 in Bijanbari, 10 cases each in Kurseong Municipality and Kharibari, nine cases each in Darjeeling Municipality and Phansidewa , six each in Mirik and Sukna, and two cases in Bijanbari.

Seven Covid patients die

Sven persons, who had been tested positive for Covid19, died at the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) today, sources said.

A 70-year-old of resident of Sevoke Road in Siliguri, a 61- year-old resident of Malbazaar in Jalpaiguri, an 89-year-old woman of Champasari in Siliguri, a 50-year-old resident of Pradhannagar, an 82- year-old from Kurseong, a 45year-old resident of Champasari, and a 54-year-old resident of Matigara died there, it is learnt.

AIDSO Covid-19 'teleclinic'

The 'Tele Clinic Covid Home Management' opened by the West Bengal state committee of the AIDSO has been drawing good response from the people even from outside the state. Anyone feeling unwell can call at 7479048080 /7430040690 for consultation between 5 pm and 8 pm every day, following registration (3 pm-4.30 pm everyday), AIDSO members said.

Senior and junior doctors have been responding to callers, while students of different colleges and universities are working as volunteers to conduct the services.

The doctors receive around 50 calls every day, it is learnt.

One of the coordinators of the clinic, Dr Sams Mushafir said he could recall a call from a chartered accountant Souvik Kumar from Jamshedpur in Jharkhand.

"He was not getting appointment of doctors there, and he was apprehending the infection because his elderly parents are co-morbid. He told us that he had largely benefited from the responses. It is becoming popular among a large section of people. At a time when the second wave of Covid-19 has hit the country very had, landing people in a very tight situation, it feels satisfying providing services to them them, especially when the health system has crumbled. Young doctors are actively cooperating with us," said Dr Mushafir, who is also a member of the state secretariat member of the AIDSO.

According to him, the situation cannot be combated unless the existing health infrastructure is developed.
