Padam Subba is sentenced to death  for the murder of a woman and a minor girl from upper Garigaon under the Pulbaazar

SNS, DARJEELING, 14 OCTOBER 2020 : Forty-three-year-old Padam Subba was today sentenced to death by a court here for the murder of a 50-year-old woman and a 13-year-old girl from upper Garigaon under the Pulbaazar Police station.

"Judge Uttam Kumar Saha in the District Sessions Court here ruled that Padam Subba be hanged to death," Darjeeling Public Prosecutor Pranai Rai said.

The incident datesback to 1 September 2017 when he murdered his relatives Maya Subba, who was then 50 years old, and a minor girl who was then 13. "Subba worked as a helper in their house," a source said.

According to Mr Rai, on that night, a neighbour of Maya Subba had heard screams coming from her house at around 10:00 PM and when he, along with his wife, went to investigate, they met Padam Subba with a blood-stained machete and a torch in his hand.

"After reaching the house, they found Maya's body on a pool of blood and after more villagers gathered, they found the body of the minor girl near the toilet with her index finger also cut," he added.

"Padam was arrested the very next day and a chargsheet filed. A total of 12 witnesses were examined in this case," Mr Rai said, adding that it was a heinous and brutal murder with the 50-year-old having six injuries and the girl having five.
