MP | 16 Sept 2022 | Kolkata: Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police on Wednesday night arrested a drug peddler and seized heroin worth around Rs five crore from South Sinthi area.
Acting on a tip off, STF personnel intercepted a youth, identified as Rabi Roy of Uttarpara in Hooghly, on B.T. Road near South Sinthi crossing. While searching the bag he was carrying, cops found a packet containing some sort of yellow coloured powder, suspected to be heroin. Roy was detained and taken to the STF police station in Lalbazar, where the powder was examined using a chemical kit.
After cops were confirmed that the powder was heroin, a case was registered and the youth was arrested. The heroin weighing about five kg is worth Rs five crore in the international grey market. He is being interrogated to find out from where he had procured the contraband and where was he going to deliver the same.
Police have also found Rs 1.70 lakh cash with him. It may be mentioned that during July, STF of the state police had busted a racket manufacturing heroin in Katwa of East Burdwan. Six persons were arrested then, including two youths from Manipur.
It was found that the youths from Manipur used to deliver raw opium and from that heroin was manufactured through several processes.
