
5 new cases from Kalimpong -Confirmed cases -33 of Gorubathan, 28 of Kalimpong I & II and 19 of Kalimpong Municipality area
KalimNews, 26 July 2020, Kalimpong: 5 new cases of Covid-19 has been reported from the district of Kalimpong.
Of the 5, 2 are from Tista and 3 are from Sombaray Bazar of Gorubathan. The 2 from Tista Bazar are 51 year old male and a 28 year old female, A day before, a 51 year old male of Tista DI fund area tested positive and is now under treatment. There are so far 3 cases of Tista.
The new 3 cases of Gorubathan are 65, 45 and 32 yrs old males from Sombaray Bazar. Earlier on 21st and 24th July a mother and her daughter from Sombaray Bazar consecutively tested positive.
On 13th July Umamati Devi, 55 yr of Sombaray Bazar tested positive and died of Covid. And on 3rd July BMOH of the Gorubathan BPHC which is within 100 mtrs of Somabaray Bazar, was found to be infected of the virus. Within this month of July 7 positive cases and a death from Covid-19 was reported from Sombaray Bazar of Gorubathan. No strict precaution and pohibition within the containment zone was followed atleast since the doctor was infected. Looking at the current rate of detecteion of positive cases from the same area within 100 mt range, the possibility of community transmission cannot be denied.
In the whole block of Gorubathan that extends from Nim, Lungshel upto Todey Tangta, as of today total confirmed 33 cases have been reported.
All the cases except the fresh cases have already recovered and there were no further contamination.
The cases were from Lungsheol, Nim, Sherpagaon, Dalim Gairi gaon, Dalim Forest Village, Godam line Upper Fagu, Mukti bridge Chelkhola, 12 Gharay Ghis Forest Village, Mal 4, Mal Busty, BPHC Gorubathan, 6 from Somabaray Bazar, 2 from Lower Raigaon, Special Forest Village, Factory line Mission Hill, Chalouni Forest Village, 2 from Upper guard line Kumai, 2 from Kumai Factory Line, Upper Tindhurey, CFC Rongo, 52 Block, 2 from 46 Dhura, Middle Suruk, and Lower Chargharey Todey,
As of now, the number of confirmed cases in the district is 80, of which 19 are from Kalimpong Municipality area, 33 from Gorubathan Block and 28 are from Kalimpong Block I and Block II. So far 2 deaths are reported from this district. Of these 2 cases (one medical staff working in Siliguri and one having his residence in Jalpaiguri, were recorded in their respective districts of Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri.
Sunita Devi Singh, 44 yr died on 30th March 2020 at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH). She had a travel history and was the first covid death case of North Bengal.
Umamai Devi 55 yr of Somabaray Bazar died on 13th July 2020 at NBMCH. She had no travel history and her possible transmission was either her son who came from Bihar but tested negative. or the hospitals - Gorubathan PHC, Mal SS Hospital Jalpaiguri hospital and NBMCH, where she had visited and treated.
28 positive cases of Kalimpong I and II blocks were from 3 of Tista, Rambi BPHC, Malli Outpost, 4 Mile, 2 of 7 mile, Rajadhara, Bhalukhop, Sangsay Bhalukhop, Raidhara Gourbari Primtam Road, Malli Road, Ambakay Dungra, Topkhana, Purba Sherpa Gaon Echchhey, Upper Echchhey, 17th Mile Paiyun, Kashyom, Munsong, Lower Gairigaon Samthar, Saldara Dovan Nimbong, Nimbong, Lower Dong, Fyangtar Yangmakum, 16 Mile Yangmakum, Malbong Dalapchand, Lower Tunglabung.
Almost all the cases have travel history only a few are primary contacts of the infected patients.As per the reports received it is alleged that complete testing of the all the possible contacts has not yet been done and there has been some negligency in parts of the administration as well as public.
Further testing of all the primary and secondary contacts may confirm whether community transmission has taken place or not.
