Hills report fresh infections after a gap -All five are from the same family but don’t have any travel history

The number of Covid-19 patients continues to rise across north Bengal, with new cases being reported from the hills on Thursday after a gap of nearly a month.

In Siliguri, a doctor and a lab technologist posted at the North Bengal Medical College & Hospital (NBMCH) and five suspected patients under treatment tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday, said a source in the state health department. All five are from the same family but don’t have any travel history.

A woman and her child from Shaktigarh, a locality in Siliguri, were admitted to the Covid hospital after both tested positive on Thursday. Residents alleged that their family members, instead of staying in home quarantine, are roaming around in the locality.

As of now, there are around 50 patients at the Covid hospital and 40 more suspected Covid-19 patients are at Desun Hospital.

Five persons of Sonada near Darjeeling were found infected with Covid-19. “It is after almost a month that new cases have been reported from the hills,” said a source. Also, three tested positive for Covid-19 in Alipurduar, seven in North Dinajpur, four in South Dinajpur and six in Cooch Behar.

Another person tested positive for Covid-19 in Sikkim.
