Heavy rains in sub-Himalayan West Bengal
PTI, Kolkata, 01 July, 2016: Heavy rains lashed parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal amid forecast of more in the next three days, while Gangetic West Bengal experienced negligible precipitation on Friday.
Jalpaiguri recorded the highest amount of rainfall at 103 mm, while Coochbehar and the hill town of Darjeeling received 17 mm and 10.3 mm rainfall respectively, the MeT department said.
Burdwan recorded the day's highest temperature in the state at 36 degrees Celsius, while Sriniketan, Bankura and Asansol recorded 35.9 degrees C, 35.1 degrees C and 34.0 degrees C, respectively.
Day temperature in Kolkata was recorded at 33.1 degrees Celsius, but high humidity caused discomfort to the city dwellers as also those in other parts of Gangetic West Bengal.
The Met department has forecast heavy rains in Darjeeling, Coochbehar and Jalpaiguri districts in sub-Himalayan West Bengal, while the forecast for Gangetic West Bengal is that of one or two spells of rain in the next two days.
KalimNews: Beside Jalpaiguri next highest rainfall on 30 June was recorded in Bagdogra at 79.8 mm and Phuntsholing at 98 mm. Of the other hill areas Jaldhaka (Jholung) received 55 mm while Kalimpong received 28mm. Kurseong recorded 24.6 mm while Gangtok received 4.4 mm rainfall.
