Hill no-trust group goes off radar... DM order revoked

VIVEK CHHETRI, TT, 01 Jun 2019, Darjeeling: Most of the councillors who had purportedly signed a requisition letter seeking for a no-confidence motion against Darjeeling civic chairperson Prativa Tamang Rai are staying away from public glare.

Rai is aligned with the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha's Binay Tamang camp.

Three of the 17-councillors, Noman Rai (ward number 6), Mingur Yolmo (4) and Ganesh Sarki (18) on Friday released videos stating that they were staying together and were very much "in Darjeeling. The video comes at a time when there are talks about the whereabouts of these councillors.

Of the 17-councillors, Lakpa Sherpa of ward number 28 filed a police complaint on Wednesday alleging that he was "made to sign on a blank paper" and that he was not aware of the content of the requisition letter.

Noman said: "All of us who had moved the no-confidence motion are in Darjeeling and we are together. We request our family members not to get worried. Our family members are getting threat from Binay daju's people and we condemn it Noman, who is also the working president of the Gorkha Janmukti
Yuwa Morcha (Bimal Gurung camp) had led the delegation to submit the petition seeking for a special meeting of the municipality.

"We did not forcibly take Lakpa Sherpa's signature….We also did not assault the chairperson of Darjeeling municipality on that day," said Noman.

Prativa, who is currently admitted at Darjeeling district hospital has filed a police complaint alleging that she was manhandled by the delegation.

Residents of Nimkidara in ward number 6 on Friday alleged that masked people armed with sharp weapons and "pistol" came to their area inquiring about Noman's house. Some of the villagers, who identified themselves as supporters of Morcha (Bimal) camp alleged that the police also arrived at the scene but did not attempt to arrest them.

The residents also came to Darjeeling Sadar police station. Police sources said that they have registered an FIR.

Meanwhile, BJP leaders in Darjeeling said that their proposed victory celebration would be held after June 15. "This is because our MP, Raju Bista will have to stay in Delhi till then because of official work. We will then organize the victory celebration in different places in the presence of Bista," said a BJP leader.

DM order revoked 
The Bengal government on Friday revoked its order to send Sanjay Bansal, a 2004- batch IAS officer, as the district magistrate of Darjeeling and placed him as an additional secretary in the health department.

Though incumbent Joyoshi Dasgupta was transferred out of the district two days ago, the government neither sent any officer to replace her, nor was her transfer order cancelled.
