North Bengal to get drenched as monsoon sets inMP | 26 May 2019 | Kolkata: North Bengal is likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall coupled with thunderstorms in the next 48 hours, predicted the Regional Meteorological Centre at Alipore on Sunday.
Meanwhile, various South Bengal districts including city will witness light rainfall in the next two days. People in the city and other districts of South Bengal had been under a heat spell for the past few days.
They have heaved a sigh of relief after a thunderstorm hit some parts of South Bengal on Saturday evening, resulting in a dip in temperature. The humidity, however, started climbing up from Sunday morning.
The MeT office has predicted rain and thundershower in various South Bengal districts in the next 48 hours, particularly in the evening. During the day, hot and humid conditions may prevail, said the weather office.
According to a weather official, the mercury will slide down by a few notches immediately after the thundershower, but the discomfort level may not be reduced as the humidity is still expected to be on the higher side.
Interestingly, the temperature may be slightly higher during night in comparison to the temperature that is normally found during this time of the year.
The weather office prediction says that North Bengal districts will receive heavy thundershower in the next 48 hours. Hailstorm is also likely to hit some districts in North Bengal, as a result of which tea gardens may face some damages.
It may be mentioned here that entire South Bengal has been facing the scorching sun for the past one week, resulting in discomfort for city-dwellers.
The temperature touched 42-43 degrees in the Western districts like Bankura, Purulia and West Midnapore. The weather office had already predicted earlier that monsoon is expected to enter the state early next month.
