Earthquake measuring 5.4 jolted Nagaland and adjoining areas.. no report of damage

KalimNews and agencies: A moderate earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale jolted Nagaland Today at 4:33 pm, an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official said. North East India and Myanmar (Burma) felt the quake. Its epicenter was at 26.3, 95.8, in the north-west Myanmar about 95.2 km from Mon of Nagaland and 72 km from Shin Bway Yang, Myanmar (Burma) and was 10 km depth.
Assam and other north-eastern states experienced a mild tremor on Saturday afternoon. According to reports, at around 4.34 pm, a mild tremor was felt in different places in northeast. Light Tremor was felt in Dibrugarh, Guwahati, Tezpur of Assam and Dimapur of Nagaland, Rangia (India) (421 km W from epicenter)
The magnitude of the earthquake was 5.4 on the Richter scale. So far, there was no report of any damage from anywhere in the northeast.
Details are awaited.
At 4:33 pm in the evening a low intensity earthquake jolted whole Assam and most of the Northeast. India — Myanmar border in Nagaland is stated to be the epicenter of the quake of 5.4 magnitude.
Indian Meteorological Department in its preliminary report stated that epicenter was about 95 km from Nagaland. Reports also claim the epicenter of the quake to be 72 km from Shin Bway Yang, Myanmar. India and Myanmar are the countries affected by the quake states the preliminary report. The depth of the quake is estimated to be 10km.
Most of the people in Silchar, however, did not feel the quake. A resident of Rongpur area said it was all over before he could realise. "I was working on my laptop when all of a sudden my head started spinning. Before I could react it was over. Mostly during quakes I hear the sound of Shanka and Jugaar, the electricity also gets disrupted, nothing like that happened today," said he.
Another Barak Valley resident currently living in Tezpur said he could feel the tremors and people residing in the vicinity also reacted to the quake. He joked quoting a meme which stated, "We were prepared for Fani, earthquake came out of syllabus." He added, "I was lying on my bed after having my lunch and all of a sudden the bed started shaking. I realised it was an earthquake, it lasted for about 3 to 4 seconds."
