Shah sets K'pong date
SNS, 9 April 2019, Kalimpong: The national president of the Bharatiya Janta Party, Amit Shah, is likely to address a public meeting in Kalimpong town on 11 April, the same day when Chief Minister and Trinamul Congress chief Mamata Banerjee addresses an election rally in Darjeeling.
Mr Shah, who will be visiting Kalimpong for the first time, will be addressing the people in the Ronaldsay Park (AKA Homes ground), near Dr Grahams Homes School, where Miss Banerjee used to be the only politician who often made appearances to hold such meetings.
According to the information received from BJP sources, Mr Shah is scheduled to land in a helicopter at the Durpin Dara (hill) in the town on the 11th.
"He will then be driven to the venue for the meeting in Kalimpong," party sources said.
The sources added that Mr Shah is expected to arrive in the town at 1.30 in the afternoon.
"We have applied a lot of pressure to bring Amit Shah to Kalimpong, although he will be here in town only for an hour," said Sagar Pokhrel, the President of the youth wing of the BJP, Darjeeling.
It is also learnt that the helipad at Durpin Dara is already being prepared for Mr Shah's reception.
