Police outpost set ablaze

TT, Jalpaiguri: A police outpost was razed to the ground by a mob at Chalsa here on Saturday night following an accident in which two people were injured.

The mob alleged that not a single police personnel was present in the outpost near which a Bolero hit a bike from behind around 11pm on Saturday night.

Two persons riding on the bike suffered serious injuries and are in hospital. The pillion rider, who was not wearing helmet, is critical, sources said.

After setting ablaze the outpost, the people also raised a roadblock for around an hour near Satkhaiya More on NH31, where the incident happened.

The mob alleged that the police did not perform their duty properly and the Bolero fled the spot. One fire fighting engine from Mal was brought to douse the flames.

Amitava Maity, superintendent of police, Jalpaiguri, said: "We are looking out for those who torched the outpost. The Bolero has been seized."
